I test a lot of tools. It is sort of my job, and I do it so you do not have to burn your one free Tuesday night on demo videos when you could be sleeping or running the business you started. The one I keep coming back to lately is Flodesk Studio.
What makes this one different is time. I have been testing Flodesk Studio for over a year. Not a weekend trial, not a quick partner preview rushed out before a launch, but a full year of getting in early, poking at it, breaking it, telling the team what did not work, and watching them turn around and fix it. That last part ended up mattering to me more than any single feature, and I will come back to it.
The first time I sat down with it, I was braced for the usual disappointment. You know the AI email tools I mean. You type a prompt, something gray and generic shows up, and then an hour of your life disappears while you undo all of it trying to make the thing look remotely like you. That is not saving time. That is a group project where your partner did the whole thing wrong.
Studio was not that. And a year later it is miles past where it started, which almost never happens, and it is why I am finally excited to talk about it out loud.
You are not short on ideas
My whole business exists to keep small business owners from getting stuck. That is the thing I care about most, more than any feature I could ever show you.
So let me push back on the version of stuck the internet loves to sell you. There is this tired story that small business owners are running on empty, too worn out to make anything happen. I do not buy it for a second. The founders I work with are the opposite of empty. You are moving a hundred miles an hour with more good ideas than you know what to do with. The real trouble is figuring out which one to run with, and then watching the idea you picked get stranded somewhere between your brain and the send button.
Usually the holdup is the design. Or the editing. Or that very human urge to make it perfect before a single person sees it. So the idea waits. And a newsletter sitting in your drafts for three weeks is not some harmless little delay. That is a sale that never closed, a person who never got to know you well enough to buy from you, a lead you meant to nurture and a relationship that never got off the ground. Real money is parked in your inbox, and the only thing keeping it there is that you got hung up on how it looks.
That gap is exactly what Flodesk Studio closes. It takes the idea living in your head and turns it into something real, on brand, and ready to send in about three minutes. The machine is not making it for you. You are making it, just a whole lot faster.

While we are here: no, email is not dead
Someone always brings this up, so I will handle it now. Email marketing is not dead. I know Substack feels like the exciting place to be, and I get the pull of chasing something that might go viral. It is genuinely great for getting ideas out into the world. What it will not give you is ownership. You cannot email one slice of your list and leave the rest alone, send a quick reminder the night before a deadline closes, or make an offer to only the people most likely to say yes. On Substack you are renting an audience on land that will never be yours.
Your inbox is a different thing entirely. Getting invited into someone’s inbox is a lot like getting invited over for dinner. It is intimate, and you treat it that way. Think about what happens the second you walk into someone’s home: before either of you says a real word, you have already noticed how beautiful the place is. We meet each other with our eyes first and read each other second.
So the way your email looks is not vanity. It is the first sentence of the relationship, and for most of us it is the sentence we fumble.
So what is Flodesk Studio?
This is the part where it earns the hype, and where it separates itself from everything else waving the word AI around this year.
Most of these tools handed the creative work straight to the machine and turned you into a supervisor watching from across the room. Flodesk went the other way. The team spent a year working with real, world-class designers to hand-build the actual pieces, the layouts and blocks and typography and palettes, thousands of individual components. So when you type what you want, the AI is not dreaming up a design out of nothing. It takes that human-made foundation, dresses it in your brand, and carries you most of the way there in seconds. Then it hands the room back to you to finish.
That is the whole point, so let it land. Studio is not a robot doing the work in your place. It is a room for you to do the work in. You say what you are after, a real starting point shows up already looking like you, and from there you make it yours. Edit it in chat if that is how your brain runs, or go in and move things pixel by pixel by hand if you are particular like I am. A Studio email looks like a designer touched it for a simple reason. One did.
The design quality, if I am being straight with you, is the furthest ahead of anything I have ever put through its paces. It brings your colors, fonts, and voice in without fighting you the whole way. One prompt gives you three versions to pick from, a fully designed one, a banner style, and a mostly text version, so you start from whatever suits the message. The block library is real and modern, full of headers, testimonials, countdowns, invitations, quotes, even recipe blocks for the food folks. You can grab a sticker, rotate it, and drop it anywhere. The whole thing is fun, which is not a word I get to put next to email software very often.

Design here, send anywhere
Now for the part that made me sit straight up in my chair. You do not have to be a Flodesk user to use it. Build a beautiful email inside Studio, export the HTML, and drop it into whatever platform you already pay for. Mailchimp, Kit, Beehiiv, take your pick. You design in one place and send from another, and as far as I know no email tool has ever pulled that off before. If a blank, ugly builder somewhere else has been draining your soul, that one thing alone is worth twenty minutes of your evening.
The whole tool is free right now while it is in beta. No credit card, no catch hiding behind the offer. Wondering what it will cost down the road? They honestly do not know yet, and they are using the beta to work that out, which earns a lot more of my trust than some made-up launch price would.

A year of watching it get better
Back to the promise I made earlier. The thing that sold me on Flodesk Studio was never one clever feature. It was watching how this team works across a full year.
I would flag something clunky, and instead of a polite thank-you-for-the-feedback that goes absolutely nowhere, the thing would change. Sometimes within days. They are building this out in the open, on purpose, with the people using it every day, and you can feel it in how fast the tool improves. Plenty of companies say they listen. Very few ship like they mean it. This one does, and a year of proof is why I trust where it is going even more than where it already is.
The honest cons, because it is beta
Let me keep it real, the way I always do, because beta and honesty go hand in hand.
A couple of things are still clunky. When I export a design into the Flodesk app itself, it lands as one giant block instead of the separate pieces I built. So if I want to keep editing, I have to go back into Studio to do it rather than adjust it in the app. The two still live as separate places, and hopping between them is not as smooth as I would like.
The other one that got me was duplication. Copying a design I loved to reuse it for the same weekly series was harder than it should be. When you send something on a regular rhythm, you want to build the look once and just refill it, and that is not fully there yet. Templates are on the way, so I am not worried about it for long.
My honest read on both is this. Beta means it is the worst it will ever be. After a year of watching how fast this team moves, I have zero doubt both get handled quickly. If anything, the thing we are worst at as a culture is giving a new tool room to grow up. We want it flawless the day it reaches everyone, and good software does not get built that way. The real ones get made out in the open, with the people using them, and they get better because those people stay a little patient and keep pointing at what is off. So I am pointing, and I am still using it every single day, because even with the kinks the floor here is higher than most tools will ever reach.
Send the email
I do not love Flodesk Studio because it is shiny. I love it because it takes one more excuse off the table, the one standing between you and the work you want to do. It shrinks the gap between the idea in your head and the email that finally goes out. Stack that gap up across a whole year of things you meant to send, and you are looking at real money left on the table, relationships that never formed, and often the difference between a business that lasts and one that fades.
We do not get to let broken logistics bury big visions. Not yours. So make the thing, make it beautiful without losing a whole day to it, and get back to the work you were actually put here to do.
